Benton County History CD - Republication of "Red Books"

The Benton County Historical Society & Museum now has available the CD ROM version of the three volume set of “Benton County History” by Kathleen White Miles and Kathleen Kelley White. The volumes, first published in 1968, are in a Portable Document Format (PDF) that allows the user to do word searches and print out individual pages of the books. The CD includes information on how to download Adobe reader for anyone who does not have the program on their computer.  The CD sells for $50.00, to order send your name, address and phone number, along with your check or money order to BCHS c/o Joy Burkhart PO Box 1176 Warsaw, MO 65355. 16 Steps Through History - Walking/Biking/Driving Tour

BCHS has teamed up with Warsaw Main Street, Inc. and the University of Missouri Extension Center in Warsaw to revived the "16 Steps Through History". This tour will be a walking, biking or driving tour that allows visitors to follow a map and signage to various points in Warsaw where our brochure will detail the history of each location. We are also working on an audio version of the brochure that will entertain visitors with a narrated version of the historic detail of each location. The project is expected to be completed before the end of 2009 with new signage, brochures and audio available to visitors.  Check back for updates on the progress of this project, and locations where brochures and audio can be obtained.

Historical Sites - Research and Signage

This is an ongoing project led by Guy Cole, member of the Benton County Historical Society.  Guy has been researching locations of past general stores and post offices in Benton County, Missouri. Whenever a site has been identified, he researches its history and produces a sign that is then placed at the location with the permission of the current property owners.  If you have any information or photographs of Benton County general stores or post offices please contact president@bchs-mo.com to share your information.  Guy would appreciate any info you might be able to share.
