Lighting the Way...for just a dollar a day fundraising campaign:

Forty years ago, a dedicated group of founding fathers had a dream to create the Benton County Museum to protect, preserve and promote the history of Benton County.  A county full of history.  To honor this dedication and the dedication of many others since. it’s time to begin plans for a bigger venue to house and protect this extraordinary collection.  We would like to introduce to you some of the highlights of our Fundraising Campaign.

First, we have a simple question… Would you support the funding of the museum and the efforts of the Benton County Historical Society at a rate of one dollar per day?  Imagine being able to support such a great adventure by packing your lunch one day per week instead of eating out!

The Benton County Historical Society is pleased to introduce to you the “Lighting the Way… for Just a Dollar a Day” Fundraising Campaign.  This Campaign has the potential to raise at least 1 million dollars for the BCHS that will be used to assist the Society in cataloging our collection, seeking and evaluating potential sites for a museum & information center.  These monies will be the seed money to acquire our future site, assist in acquiring additional funding through various programs with the State of Missouri and National Preservation Organizations.  They will be used for administrative costs, cataloging costs, and packaging, storing and moving collection costs and any other costs deemed necessary by the BCHS.  The goal of the BCHS is to have a new venue secured within the next 3 to 5 years.  This goal can become a reality with your support.

The BCHS kicked off the “Lighting the Way… for Just a Dollar a Day” Fundraising Campaign on July 9, 2009.  The goal of this campaign is to receive generous contributions from at least one thousand individuals/businesses/organizations of one dollar a day for a thousand days.  When the BCHS achieves this goal this fundraising campaign has potential to raise funds totaling at least $1 Million dollars to assist the society in our mission to preserve Benton County history.  The “Lighting the Way… for Just a Dollar a Day” Fundraising Campaign will run through April 3, 2012.  In the museum, you will receive acknowledgement for your generous contribution; you will also receive a plaque suitable for hanging in your home or business recognizing you as part of the “Lighting the Way… for Just a Dollar a Day” Fundraising Campaign.

How will this money be handled you ask?  INITIALLY, 50% of the contributions will be deposited into the Lighting Campaign account to be used for administrative, cataloging and consulting costs related to the museum.  The other 50% will be deposited into an interest bearing savings account.  When said savings account reaches $30,000; $25,000 will be placed into interest bearing CD’s to be used at a later date.

We have pledge forms available to you if you are ready to pledge your support to the BCHS or we would be happy to set up a time to discuss the “Lighting the Way… for Just a Dollar a Day” Fundraising Campaign with you in more detail.  We have various payment plans for you that can accommodate anyone’s budget.  And other payment plans can be arranged so that we can assist you making your contribution and helping the BCHS to honor and recognize the dream of the founding fathers.
